Out of the Mouths of Babes…… a true story.

I have just visited a neighbour to deliver a slightly tardy birthday gift. It is his 40th Birthday Week…

The conversation turned, almost inevitably, to The Soccer/Association Football/Football/FIFA World Cup compettition in South Africa. We both agreed that we are already becoming bored with it but agreed that it is wonderful for South Africa.

During the chat this tale about our neighbour’s daughter came out. To save her blushes we will call her Rachelle.

It appears tha all the boys and some of the girls in Rachelle’s class at school are preoccupied with the World Cup and, as her dad is not overly sporty she feels a little left out. Earlier this week she came home with a question for her father. You will understand that dad was not absolutely on the ball at first and had to establish what exactly she was talking about. Football teams.

The question she asked?

“Daddy, who do we worship?”

Out of the mouth of babes is so right. What a delightful story that I am sure that father will be telling for a long time to come.

In India, the answer would be Sachin Tendulkar, Mahender Singh Dhoni etc. They are worshipped is an understatement. They mean so much to so many young people who dream that they too can reach there.
